GHB Addiction

GHB Addiction is a serious illness that affects not only the addict but also the people around them. Although a lot of addicts think that they can stop the addiction themselves, the reality is that they need help from licensed counselor.

GHB has several characteristics that increase the likelihood of toxicity. Just a small increase in dose can make the sedative effects go to a lethal level. High doses of the drug overwhelm the body’s ability to eliminate the drug therefore causing greater effects for a longer duration. GHB’s purity and strength are also hard to determine because the drug can be made from a number of chemical formulas, all of them differing in the amount of GHB produced when its metabolized by the user’s body.

GHB is made from a chemical combination of Gamma Butyrolactone (GBL) and Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide, so basically it’s made from a mix of Degreasing Solvent or Floor Stripper and Drain Cleaner. When GBL or BD or products containing them are ingested, GHB is produced by the body. It is also popularly known as one of the “club drugs” as well as one of drugs used for date rape. It’s appearance can make it easy to hide simply because it is a clear liquid and looks just like water. It can easily be mistaken as water because it usually comes in a clear plastic bottle, a water bottle, or even a Gatorade bottle which can contain several doses. Although, with one taste, you’ll know it’s not water. GHB can also be found in a powder form, although, not as common as the liquid form, powder use is on the rise.

Many people also have bad reactions to GHB especially when it’s combined with the use of alcohol or other drugs. Some of the effects include Nausea, Headaches, Drowsiness, Dizziness, Amnesia, Vomiting, Loss of muscle control, Respiratory problems, Loss of consciousness, Being conscious but unable to move, and Death. GHB Addiction also comes with a high risk of overdose especially since, as noted earlier, its purity and strength are so hard to determine. In cases of overdose a user may show signs or symptoms such as, but not limited to, Drowsiness, sleep, or loss of consciousness, Nausea or vomiting, Headache, Loss of reflexes, Impaired breathing, respiratory depression, or blocked airway due to loss of gag reflex, Seizures, Hypothermia, Slowed heart rate, coma, and untimely death.

As you can tell, GHB Addiction is nothing to be taken lightly. If you or someone you know suffers from GHB Addiction, seek help immediately. GHB Addiction is not anything to be taken lightly.
