Ecstasy Addiction
Ecstasy Addiction is a serious illness that requires help from licensed counselors to stop the addiction. Ecstasy will begin to show its effects after about 20 minutes and can last for hours. Ecstasy has effects similar to hallucinogens and stimulants. There is a sudden “rush” followed by a calm and a sense of well-being to those around, often with a heightened perception of color and sound. Some people may actually feel sick and experience stiffening of arms, legs, and particularly the jaw along with sensations of thirst, sleeplessness, depression, and paranoia. It may also give a feeling of energy and have some mild hallucinogenic effects. It is often found being used in nightclubs or raves which is why it’s commonly known as a “club drug”. Other names that it may also be known by are X, XTC, E, Adam, hug, beans, clarity, lover’s speed, and love drug. Ecstasy is a synthetic drug made in secret labs hidden all over the country. It’s not grown from a plant like Marijuana is. The makers often substitute various things for the MDMA in Ecstasy such as cocaine, caffeine, dextromethorphan (cough syrup), or amphetamines which can make the purity of the drug always questionable. Ecstasy Addiction can also cause long lasting damage to brain areas that are critical for thought and memory according to new research findings in the June 15 issue of The Journal of Neuroscience. Researchers have found that the nerve cells (neurons) damaged by ecstasy are those that use the chemical serotonin to communicate with other neurons. Even those that have only used the drug a few times are risking long term, perhaps even permanent, problems with learning and memory. Just like any other stimulant or hallucinogenic drug, Ecstasy has the ability to cause an addiction. In a situation with an overdose, you may see some signs and symptoms such as High blood pressure, Faintness, Panic attacks, and, in more severe cases, Loss of consciousness, Seizures, and a Drastic rise in body temperature. Some Ecstasy overdose may also be fatal, resulting in Heart failure or Extreme heat stroke.
