Lortab Addiction
Lortab Addiction is a growing problem in the United States. Lortab Addiction can not only make life hard for the addict but also for everyone around them.
Lortab is a narcotic that can produce a soothing state similar to heroin or morphine. Pure Hydrocodone, the narcotic ingredient in Lortab, is a Schedule II substance, closely controlled with restricted use. Very few medications are pure Hydrocodone though, Lortab being one of them. They use smaller amounts of the pure Hydrocodone mixed with other non-narcotic ingredients to make Lortab, making it a Schedule III substance, therefore, not as closely controlled. The lack of regulation makes them more vulnerable to widespread abuse and addiction.
When given for medicinal purposes, Lortab is taken orally usually in pill or liquid form. When a person has a Lortab Addiction, they may take it orally, chewed, crushed, then snorted like cocaine, or dissolved in water and injected like heroin.
Lortab Addiction may cause a person to go as far as to “Doctor shop,” getting multiple prescriptions from different doctors to support their addiction, some addicts will even try to forge prescriptions. Every age group has been affected by the ease of availability that is associated with Lortab.
Depending on individual tolerance, many medical experts believe that dependence or addiction can occur within one to four weeks at higher doses. As tolerance for the drug builds, the higher the dose the body needs to reach its “high” which can result in overdose. Overdose of any medication can be fatal. If you suspect that someone has overdosed, seek emergency help immediately. With Lortab Addiction, if overdose should occur, some signs and symptoms present may include, but not be limited to, Muscle spasticity, breathing may be slow and labored, shallow breathing, or no breathing, Pinpoint pupils, bluish skin (fingernails and lips), Heavy perspiration, Spasms of the stomach and/or intestinal tract, Constipation, Vomiting, Weak pulse, Low blood pressure, Drowsiness, or even Coma.
